Camille Hémet is a full professor of economics at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and the Paris School of Economics, as well as a CEPR research affiliate. Since January 2024, she has led the “Police and Justice” research group at the Institute for Public Policies. She obtained her PhD in Economics from Sciences Po in 2013 and held positions at the Institute of Economics of Barcelona and Ecole Normale Supérieure.
Her research focuses on local social interactions, such as neighborhood effects, and their influence on economic activities, including education, housing, labor markets, crime, and voting. Camille is also deeply involved in the economics of crime, exploring spatial inequalities and the impact of the criminal justice system, particularly incarceration’s long-term economic effects. She coordinates a multidisciplinary research group on “Cities, History, and Society” at PSE.
